Glass Standoff
Glass standoffs fix glass panels to the side of a slab, stair stringer or wall, so the balustrade appears to float and the floor stays clear. UNIKIM makes round, square, adjustable, edge and pin-type standoffs in AISI 304 and 316 stainless steel in its own Ningbo factory, with rubber or PVC washers that keep steel off the glass.

How to choose a glass standoff
Start with the glass. Thicker laminated glass needs a larger head, so Ø60 and Ø70 mm standoffs suit glass up to 21 mm, while Ø30 mm standoffs suit lighter interior glass. Next, choose the stand-off distance: a longer standoff leaves room for cladding, render or a drip edge between the slab and the glass. Then pick the back: flat for walls and slab edges, or curved for round posts from Ø33.7 to 50.8 mm. Finally, choose AISI 316 for pools, coastal sites and polluted areas, and 304 for dry interiors.
Most panels start with four standoffs, but the number, the hole size and the edge distances depend on the glass and the loads, so follow the engineer’s layout. For the adjustable MOD 2920, the UNIKIM catalogue shows hole centres 80–300 mm from the side edge and 100–300 mm from the top or bottom edge. In the USA, IBC Section 2407 requires laminated glass in most guards and a factor of safety of four.
Glass standoff FAQ
What is a glass standoff?
A round or square stainless steel fitting that bolts through a hole in the glass and holds the panel a set distance from the wall, slab or post.
How many standoffs per glass panel?
Four is the usual starting point, two near each side edge. Tall panels, stairs and heavy laminated glass may need six; the final layout comes from the engineer.
Which standoff for 21.52 mm laminated glass?
Use a Ø60 or Ø70 mm standoff (MOD 2400–2550), which hold 8–21 mm glass, or the adjustable MOD 2920 for glass up to 25.52 mm.

Product questions
Frequently asked questions
Which stainless steel grade should I choose: 304 or 316?
Choose 304 for dry indoor projects. Choose 316 for anything outdoors, near a pool or close to the coast, because it resists chlorides and salt much better. See our 304 vs 316 guide.
What finishes are available?
Our railing hardware is available in satin (brushed), mirror polish and matte black, with other finishes on request. Tell us your finish when you ask for a quotation.
Can you produce custom sizes or our own design?
Yes. Send your drawings or specification and we can manufacture custom sizes, shapes and finishes for contractors, distributors and OEM partners.
Which glass thickness do your fittings support?
The supported glass thickness is listed in each product’s specifications. If you are unsure, send us your glass specification (thickness and tempered or laminated) and we will confirm the right fittings.
Do you supply complete railing systems or individual parts?
Both. You can order individual fittings, or matched posts, handrails, clamps, spigots and base shoes for a complete railing system.
